Accelerated Moments (Timelapse)

Accelerated Moments (Timelapse) from Sean Goebel on Vimeo.
This montage was filmed during two years of trips around California, Arizona, Utah, and Hawaii. Locations include Yosemite, Death Valley, Arches, Canyonlands, and Joshua Tree National Parks. Other locations include Mt. Whitney (the tallest peak in the continental U.S.), Havasupai Falls (in the Grand Canyon), Monument Valley, the Salton Sea, the San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm, the Tehachapi Pass Wind Farm, Goblin Valley, Trona Pinnacles, Honolulu (the two urban scenes), the Valley of Fire, Horseshoe Bend, and several other spots I would prefer not to disclose.

Many of the locations required carrying way too much camera gear on multi-day backpacking trips into the wilderness. Over 12,000 images were included in this montage, and those represent perhaps half of the total amount filmed. More of my still and timelapse work can be found here, at www.sgphotos.com, and at www.flickr.com/photos/geekyrocketguy. The fullres timelapse is 4K resolution, though Vimeo doesn't support it...

I used home-built motion equipment (a dolly and a rotary table) in many of the scenes. They use motors salvaged from discarded printers and an Arduino microcontroller for the user interface. More information on it is available at http://sgphotos.com/portfolio/timelapse/motionproject/.
